Wisconsin’s Wausau on Water (WOW) Family Entertainment Center showcases beautiful view of the Wisconsin River and the capabilities of several local businesses: design/build services by United Structures, curtainwall by FreMarq Innovations, glazing and installation by Rib Mountain Glass, and architectural aluminum finishing services by Linetec. In addition, Linetec also applied matching finishes to the project’s entranceway from Texas-based TORMAX.
“We wanted something on the water and with a great view. This is where the curtainwalls came into play, for the large view of the Wisconsin River from our dining and bar areas,” said Michael Vanderloop, operations manager at WOW Family Entertainment Center.
Helping attract attention to the new entertainment destination, Linetec finished the 21,215-square-foot building’s curtainwall and door systems in a dramatic Cool Colonial Red color. Maurice Wolfe of Rib Mountain Glass noted, “The Colonial Red color acted as an accent color to bring the blue and gray together.”
Linetec applied a high-performance 70% PVDF resin-based coating in its Wausau-based facility. As an environmentally responsible finisher, it safely captures and destroys the VOCs present in liquid solvent-based paints before the finished products’ arrival on the building site.
Under Linetec’s stringent processes, the finishes for WOW’s aluminum-framed curtainwall and doors not only contribute to sustainable goals and aesthetic aspirations, but also meet the American Architectural Manufacturers Association’s (AAMA) 2605 industry standard, the most stringent standard for painted aluminum. Coatings following this standard help minimize buildings’ maintenance costs, maximize long lifecycles, and support durability and performance requirements.
“The requirement for more energy-efficient fenestration materials is becoming more of a code/standards issue, recognizing the long-term value due to energy dollar savings and environmental costs,” explained Wolfe. “Building owners are looking to obtain their best-operating values for the construction funds spent, so the cost upgrade of the enhanced energy may pay off for years to come.”
Total project construction is estimated at $3.3 million and was completed in nine months. Celebrating its first anniversary in the new building, WOW’s customer and staff seem pleased with the results. Vanderloop concludes, “It is not cold by the windows and we have that beautiful view we all wanted.”
